Guilty Pleasures: Session 1: Client conversations, 14.12.20

To begin with, we communicated our guilty pleasures visually only through images and pictograms. This was challenging as in the short time we were given to do so we had to depict our guilty pleasures. I tried my best to represent my guilty pleasure through symbolising it and to understand my client guilty pleasure as well. This was however made clear when we spoke through text only. This allowed for us to use our words and for me to much better understand what her guilty pleasure was and how she felt and thought of. I did not know that ‘people watching’ was something that was consciously defined prior to speaking to Anna about it and hence hearing from not only helped clarify but also gave me insight into the guilty pleasure and everything in an around it.

Furthermore, when we spoke with just with audio. This allowed for a certain level of comfort and allowed us to get to know each other a bit better and have a conversation about it all and gain details of the guilty pleasure as well. When we turned on our cameras as well after this, it was a little bit scary at first due to the build up after all the various modes of communication but once we turned then on it instantly was better and more comfortable to speak being able to see her face and feel like I was actually speaking to a person. This mode once again allowed us to go further in detail and allowed me to find out the parts of the guilty pleasure that were unique to Anna. This process was a new and interesting one and worked well in gathering information bit by bit.

I through it having a balance of questions in order to gather information but also being conversational at the same time as it not only helps you uncover details you may not have known you needed but also doesn’t make it feel like a extremely serious interview and allows the person to be comfortable speaking to you. As a result of this, I think I have successfully gathered enough information. With a combination of this and further secondary research on people, I think I will be able to begin planning for and creating an animation for Anna’s guilty pleasure.
